Elliot Cushey is a transgender print and alternative process based artist from Central Pennsylvania. He is currently a candidate for a Masters of Fine Arts at Kent State University in print media and photography. Their work explores pleasure and joy within transgender identity, using personal material to give the viewer insight to their point of view and lived experiences. The use of text is consistent throughout his body of work and is used as an attempt to communicate nuances of identity while simultaneously acknowledging that no amount of communication can fully encompass the entirety of one’s identity. He hopes to elevate the topic of trans identity within fine art through a high level of craft and innovative experimentation of the print medium. He considers alternative process and print as “othered” within fine art and finds this similar to the dynamics of his queerness.
